  • About the Volunteer Role

    This role is based at Beechwood Nursing Home, 8 Bryan Road, Edgerton HD2 2AH. We provide support for up to 24 individuals who need complex nursing care due to a physical or neurological condition such as a stroke, brain injury or cerebral palsy.

    As a Befriender you will provide companionship to residents who have less contact with their families. You might read to them or help them engage in an activity such as gardening. You may also help out in our special 'life skills' room which features an interactive screen, virtual reality handsets, iPads, Kindles, an Xbox gaming console and immersive lighting.

    This role is flexible and will develop as you build a rapport with the resident you are supporting, and based on their needs, wishes and aspirations.

    PPE will be provided and you will be required to undertake lateral flow testing on site in line with our Covid procedures.

    We are looking for people of a caring nature and it would suit those looking for experience in a  health and social care environment.

Covid-Safe Volunteering

If you are volunteering in lockdown, please make sure that you are staying safe and are up-to-date with the current rules and guidance.

From 29th March, you should continue to volunteer from home where possible unless you cannot reasonably do so. You can leave home to volunteer if you are not required to isolate for any reason. Please make sure that you are following the guidelines to stay safe.

From 12th April, we move to Step 2 of the Government's lockdown easing roadmap.  This is when charity shops, libraries, and community centres can reopen, and cafes can serve people outside, which will mean that more people will be volunteering outside their homes and we may start to get more new volunteering opportunities.
